This craft project is probably not terribly well-suited for small children; it requires either very sharp scissors or a lot of hand strength to cut through 12 layers of paper with non-sharp scissors.
YOU WILL NEED:
Scissors
A piece of paper
STEP ZERO: Here's the paper.
STEP ONE: Fold the lower right corner up.
STEP TWO: Cut off the rectangle that's on the left.
STEP THREE: Fold the bottom corner of the triangle up and to the right.
STEP FOUR: Fold the left corner over as shown in the picture. This is tricky; it requires you to fold the paper in thirds, not in half.
STEP FIVE: Fold the right corner over so that the shape created has all the edges lined up.
STEP SIX: Turn the shape over.
STEP SEVEN: Cut off the "ears".
STEP EIGHT: Cut notches in the shape all the way around. This is the creative part of the project.
STEP NINE: Unfold and flatten your snowflake to see what you have created! If you haven't cut enough away, carefully fold it back and cut some more.
Here are some more snowflakes Andy and I made on 12/21/25:
